Walker Buehler reportedly joins the Boston Red Sox on a one-year deal to finish an impressive rotation restoration project.
The 30-year-old already won two World Series championships in his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He made multiple statements against American League East teams during his run to one of the more established starters in the sport.
The Red Sox certainly remember his dazzling start against Boston in Game 3 of the 2018 World Series when the Dodgers won their lone game in an extra-inning thriller. Buehler went six innings with just three hits and one run allowed with 10 strikeouts against the Red Sox.
The right-hander also appealed to the Red Sox Nation as the pitcher who closed out the New York Yankees, striking out Alex Verdugo as the final out in the 2024 World Series.
Buehler’s regular season sample size against the division is limited yet impressive. He tallied 23 strikeouts with a 0.96 ERA in three career starts against the AL East, adding an extra incentive to the overall talent the Red Sox add to their rotation. Buehler fits in nicely with fellow offseason addition Garrett Crochet and the foundational young starters of Tanner Houck, Brayan Bello and Kutter Crawford in addition to returning veteran Lucas Giolito.
