The Red Sox and other contending clubs seemingly going to great lengths to convince Juan Soto to sign with them, as they should.

Soto reportedly is taking time with his decision that could come before the MLB winter meetings Monday. The 26-year-old could earn a historic contract and be the face of a turnaround if he signed with Boston.

The Red Sox reportedly brought all of their key players, including chairman Tom Werner and president Sam Kennedy, to pitch the All-Star outfielder to Boston. Their presentation included the franchise’s rich history with Dominican players, including David Ortiz, Soto’s childhood hero. Ortiz publicly took it upon himself to recruit his fellow countryman.

Multiple past and present Boston stars also did their part to help the Red Sox. However, the extent of the recruiting campaign might have been exaggerated.

“It’s been reported that Soto has been recruited by a number of Red Sox stars, past and present, in an effort to sell him on signing with Boston and coming to play for the Sox. But one baseball source indicated those reports had been ‘overblown,'” MassLive’s Sean McAdam reported Thursday.

It’s probably more likely that past and current Red Sox stars had a small conversation with Soto rather than a full recruitment effort. That’s not to say those efforts won’t be successful as Boston fans hope Soto chooses the Red Sox.
