The Yankees obviously would love to have Juan Soto back, but the sentiment around the industry isn’t as optimistic.

New York is competing with its crosstown rivals, the Red Sox, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Toronto Blue Jays for Soto’s services. The Yankees have the financial resources to entice the 26-year-old. However, multiple MLB insiders view the Mets and Boston as the favorites. Jon Morosi added to the pessimism around Soto’s return to the Bronx.

“I’m not quite convinced that that’s where he is going to go,” Morosi said on MLB Network on Thursday.

Morosi added that New York could shift gears and target Corbin Burnes and Willy Adames with the $600 million they could have used to sign Soto. While that might not be as flashy as a future Hall of Famer, the Yankees would be a better team.

The Bronx Bombers reportedly have multiple backup options planned if they aren’t able to secure Soto, which could mean they also aren’t confident in retaining the superstar. They reportedly will get one last chance to make a pitch to the All-Star outfielder, but the outside perception of their odds isn’t great.
