One MLB insider doesn’t love the Red Sox’s chances of signing Juan Soto.

There have been several reports indicating Boston is very much in the race to land the most coveted player in free agency. In fact, one rumor claimed the New York Yankees began to “fear” the Red Sox as they put together their pitch and offer for Soto.

Still, from talking to folks around the league, MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand is under the impression the Soto sweepstakes really are a two-horse race between the New York clubs. Feinsand believes the Mets ultimately will land the four-time All-Star, with the Yankees coming in as the runner-up. The veteran insider the Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers, respectively, as the likeliest landing spots for Soto.

Soto teaming up with Francisco Lindor hardly would be a surprise. The Mets put together a very encouraging 2024 season and there’s no reason to believe owner Steve Cohen won’t go above and beyond to sign one of the best players in the sport. Such a pact only would require a quick move to Queens for Soto, who thrived in the Bronx in 2024.

To be clear, all indications point to the Red Sox doing everything they can to appeal to Soto. But both Big Apple ballclubs are more than capable of making compelling pitches as well.
