The Boston Red Sox still need a right-handed bat. That search will continue with another option off the board and the second straight season with this ending for Boston.
Outfielder Teoscar Hernández reportedly agreed to return to the Los Angeles Dodgers on a three-year deal worth $66 million, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan and MassLive’s Chris Cotillo.
Boston once again seemed like a fit after negotiations with Hernández a year ago and ended with the same result of the outfielder heading west. Hernández had a career year in 2024 with 33 home runs and a World Series championship with the Los Angeles Dodgers, defeating the New York Yankees in five games.
The Red Sox will likely turn to the infield if the right-handed bat search continues with candidates such as free agent Alex Bregman and St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado. Boston took care of business in the starting rotation with the additions of Garrett Crochet and Walker Buehler. Now, the attention should turn to balancing an already-talented lineup for 2025 and beyond.
