There’s no shortage of rumors linking Luis Castillo to the Red Sox.

MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand added one of his own Monday when he speculated Boston could be a landing spot for the Seattle Mariners right-hander. Castillo, Feinsand wrote, feels more likely to be traded this offseason than San Diego Padres’ Dylan Cease, among others.

“Castillo feels like the more likely arm to be moved, as the Mariners are desperate for an offensive upgrade but don’t appear to have the payroll flexibility to attack the free-agent market,” Feinsand wrote.

Seattle is expected to trade Castillo for an impactful slugger. However, the Mariners also could trade Castillo and offload his salary, then sign a free agent with those finances.

Boston is viewed as a team that could go about it either way.

“The Red Sox would seem like a strong match with the Mariners, especially as Boston continues to monitor the market for hitters like Alex Bregman and Teoscar Hernández,” Feinsand wrote.

The Red Sox already acquired Garrett Crochet in a trade that sent four prospects to the Chicago White Sox. But if Boston does want to add another top-of-rotation pitcher, Castillo has proved to be a veteran workhorse.
