The Boston Red Sox already bolstered the rotation with Garrett Crochet and Walker Buehler in addition to establishing legitimate depth.
That hasn’t taken Craig Breslow’s interest away from Japanese ace Roki Sasaki, who will come to a free-agent decision in the international pool following his posting from NPB in Japan. The Red Sox did not receive an initial meeting with the young starter, though Boston’s executive remains hopeful for a chance in negotiations.
“We had not been granted a meeting earlier but hope to stay involved and stay engaged,” Breslow told reporters virtually Monday. “We would welcome the chance to present why we think Boston could be a great environment.”
Sasaki seems to make plenty of sense in the National League West with the Los Angeles Dodgers or the San Diego Padres, but Breslow knows that the Red Sox can offer a quality pitching destination if given the shot before a decision in the new year.
“We pitched why we feel Boston is a great environment for NPB pitchers to come over,” Breslow added. “We could speak to our track record of success. Ultimately, it’s not our decision. We’ll obviously be ready and available to pitch the organization if we get that opportunity.”
