Craig Breslow has been focused on making the Red Sox a better baseball team before Boston takes the field for the 2025 season.

While Breslow pursued various options to improve the pitching staff as well as the lineup, rumors began circulating that the Red Sox were willing to move on from first baseman Triston Casas. Breslow shut down the speculation and outlined the importance of Casas’ role with the team when he met with the media virtually Monday afternoon.

“This was something that I was asked about at the Winter Meetings as well, and I’m not totally sure where it comes from,” Breslow said. “We’re not shopping Triston. We see him as a guy that can hit in the middle of the lineup for a really long time here in Boston. Obviously, plus power, plus strike zone judgment, the ability to get on base, and it’s someone that I don’t think we’ve seen the best of.  He obviously missed a number of months during the season, and we’re really excited for him to be completely healthy. He’s had a full healthy offseason.”

Even if the Red Sox are not actively shopping Casas, Breslow clarified that other teams may have inquired about the 24-year-old’s availability.

“When you have really good young players, I don’t think it’s surprising that other teams would ask about them,” Breslow said. “I’ve seen some of the speculation about what deals may or may not have been proposed and there was nothing that was remotely close. We’re certainly not shopping him.”

Casas missed a lot of the season last year with a rib injury. He slashed .241/.337/.462 with 13 home runs and 32 RBIs across 63 games for the Red Sox.
