The Red Sox certainly seem to be excited about acquiring Garrett Crochet on Wednesday, but there are still some needs to be addressed.

Boston is well aware.

Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow essentially admitted as much, outlining the needs he intends to address in an appearance on WEEI’s “Jones and Keefe” on Thursday.

“It’s really hard to share what we should expect because if I’ve learned anything over the last (several) days — there are moments in time where you feel something is really close, but at the drop of a hat, it feels like you’re miles apart,” Breslow said. “The one thing that I absolutely can affirm is that we will continue to be aggressive in our pursuit of any path to improving our team. That could come via starting pitching (or) a right-handed bat to help balance out the lineup, and we’ll continue to build out the bullpen.”

It’s about what you’d expect, right?

Boston has needed to balance out the lineup for quite some time, with Trevor Story currently serving as the only right-handed bat who could feasibly be placed in the middle of the order. Ceddanne Rafaela, Connor Wong, Romy González and Rob Refsnyder aren’t going to get that job done.

Breslow has been linked to multiple arms, as well, including the likes of Corbin Burnes, John Means, Walker Buehler, Kirby Yates, Tanner Scott and Devin Williams.

The Red Sox can’t go out and sign all of those guys, but marrying one or two of those names with someone like Alex Bregman and/or Teoscar Hernández could go a long way in helping get them back into contention.
