It’s been a big week for Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy.

McAvoy not only became a father for the very first time Sunday, but he also is expected to snap a seven-game absence with a return to the lineup in Thursday’s matchup with the Winnipeg Jets.

Oh, yeah.

USA Hockey announced Thursday that McAvoy was selected as an assistant captain for Team USA for the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off. Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews was named captain and Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk was named the other assistant captain.

McAvoy, 27, has been a long-term member of Team USA, representing the United States at the 2014 World U-17 Hockey Challenge and the 2015 IIHF Under-18 World Championship, bringing home gold in both tournaments. The Bruins blueliner also played in the IIHF World Junior Championships in 2016 and 2017, winning bronze and gold, respectively, and was an assistant captain for Team USA during the 2017 Tournament.

The Bruins will have several other players in the international tournament, as goaltender Jeremy Swayman will also play for the United States, forward Brad Marchand will play for Canada and fellow forward Elias Lindholm will play for Sweden.

Bell Centre in Montreal and TD Garden in Boston will serve as the host venues and cities for the tournament.
