New England Patriots wide receiver(s coach) Wes Welker?
It’s not totally out of the question.
The Dolphins announced they’d be parting ways with Welker on Friday, bringing an end to his three-season stint as the team’s wide receivers coach. Miami also parted ways with special teams coordinator Danny Crossman.
“I am grateful for Danny’s contributions and dedication to the Dolphins over the course of many seasons, as well as the numerous ways he helped me as a head coach,” Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said, per a statement provided by the team. “I also want to thank Wes for his investment here. This was not a decision I came to lightly, but as I have evaluated the season and areas where we must improve, I believe that change is needed and am motivated to do what is best for the team as we move forward.”
Welker, of course, spent six seasons in New England, serving as one of the most prolific wide receivers in the franchise history. The Patriots also will need a wide receivers coach when they eventually decide between Mike Vrabel and Ben Johnson. Is it possible he returns to the place that made him famous?

No, probably not.
Welker has notoriously stayed away from his roots since departing for the Denver Broncos back in 2013. Vrabel has hired many people on his staff through the years, but there’s never been reported interest in his former teammate.
It’s much more likely he heads back to the San Francisco 49ers or ends up in another brand of Kyle Shanahan’s system.
Welker at Gillette Stadium is a nice thought, though.
