Mike Vrabel reportedly started interviewing with teams, which means the New England Patriots will need to work quickly if they want him.
Vrabel reportedly scheduled interviews with the New Orleans Saints, Chicago Bears and Jets. New York met with the 49-year-old first in New Jersey. Players and staff will be in the building so Vrabel will get an idea of the daily operations.
Multiple reports indicate that the Patriots will keep Jerod Mayo no matter the result this Sunday. However, there are seeds of doubt and adding to that is Vrabel’s reported interest in the New England job as well as an already-made plan if he did replace Mayo.
It’s why those around the league wonder what the Jets’ interest in Vrabel could mean for Robert Kraft.
“From an NFL source, not affiliated with either franchise … Do the owners in New England see Vrabel interviewing with the hated rival Jets today and have any reaction to that news at all?” Schrager posted on X.

It’s interesting for the NFL insider to drop that nugget since Vrabel reportedly could use the Jets as “leverage” because he wants the Patriots job. It’s certainly possible Vrabel’s camp tried to antagonize the Krafts to make a move with Mayo.
Vrabel still has other interviews he’ll likely get done next week, but he could have a close eye on what happens in Foxboro, Mass., after Week 18.
