There will be more vacancies next week with the NFL’s “Black Monday” surely to mark the end of many head coaching tenures.
The New York Jets, Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints won’t be alone. Perhaps the Jacksonville Jaguars move on from Doug Pederson, or the New York Giants part ways with Brian Daboll, or the Las Vegas Raiders call it one and done with Antonio Pierce. Those possibilities, among others, are on the table.
Mike Vrabel, arguably the top head coaching candidate this offseason, apparently isn’t too high on the job in Sin City, however. NFL writer Tony Pauline on Tuesday reported on Vrabel’s lack of interest in the not-yet-open position.
“Word is that the Las Vegas Raiders will make a run at Vrabel, but people don’t believe he wants that job either,” Pauline wrote Tuesday.

Pauline reported those around the league don’t believe Vrabel is interested in the Jets head coaching position either. Instead, Pauline wrote, Vrabel “wants” the Patriots job.
The Patriots, much like the Raiders, don’t have a coaching vacancy as it currently stands. Patriots first-year head coach Jerod Mayo will conclude a frustrating 2024 campaign Sunday. Reports have indicated Mayo likely will return next season, but the door remains open for the Patriots to move on from him.
