The Patriots won Sunday afternoon, but you would have been hard-pressed to find any New England fans who were basking in the glow of victory.

The 23-16 triumph over the Buffalo Bills at Gillette Stadium did a number on the Patriots, who dropped from first to fourth in the 2025 NFL Draft first-round order. With the top pick, New England could have either taken its perceived best player in the class or accelerated its rebuild by trading the selection for a significant return.

Of course, a change in draft slot wasn’t the only thing that commanded the attention of Patriots fans after the Week 18 tilt. New England fired first-year head coach Jerod Mayo not long after the final whistle sounded, which prompted immediate speculation about who could take the vacant seat at One Patriot Place.
