Many NFL insiders believe that if the Patriots hire Mike Vrabel as their next head coach, he would hire Josh McDaniels as his offensive coordinator.
McDaniels is no stranger to coaching in New England. He was part of the Patriots coaching staff for nearly two decades before becoming the head coach in Las Vegas.
Given his history with the Patriots, it’s not hard to believe that fans are torn on whether or not McDaniels would be a good fit (again) in New England.
Some fans remember the glory days when McDaniels won six Super Bowl championships with New England — with Tom Brady under center, while others focus on the lone Cam Newton year when the Patriots didn’t make the playoffs.
What should stand out is McDaniels’ final year as the Patriots’ offensive coordinator which was during Mac Jones’s rookie season, and arguably his best. Jones threw for 3,801 yards and 22 touchdowns, leading New England to a 10-7 record and a return to the postseason.

Those are pretty promising numbers for Drake Maye’s development. With the right offensive weapons, Maye has the potential to grow into a Pro Bowl quarterback. If the Patriots improve the talent around him while bringing in a veteran play-caller like McDaniels, they could prove extremely successful.
Another Patriot player who benefited from McDaniels was wideout Kendrick Bourne. During the 2021 season, Bourne had 800 receiving yards on 55 receptions and five touchdowns. McDaniels might be able to work with Javon Baker and Ja’Lynn Polk, whose seasons were rather disappointing, to help them develop into legitimate receivers.
