BOSTON — Northeastern kept its chance of a Dunkin’ Women’s Beanpot three-peat alive by taking down Boston College, 4-2, in semifinal action Tuesday night at historic Matthews Arena.

The No. 15 Huskies improved their record to 14-6-1 while the No. 12 Eagles dropped to 14-7-1.

ONE BIG TAKEAWAY
Northeastern has reigned supreme during the Beanpot the last couple of seasons and it’s because of performances like the one it put on against BC.

The Huskies flew around the ice making key play after key play and were aided by a raucous home crowd — the attendance of 3,298 was the largest crowd both for a Beanpot game at a campus site and in Northeastern women’s hockey history. They trashed BC’s hopes of ending its Beanpot title drought pretty early and scored two goals 56 seconds apart just over the midway point of the first period. Northeastern added one more tally before the opening frame concluded, thanks to a power-play goal from senior defenseman Tory Mariano.

The three-goal lead was in goods hands with Lisa Jonsson between the pipes for the Huskies. The freshman netminder entered the important contest leading the nation in goals-against average (1.00) and save percentage (.959).

Northeastern got contributions from a mix of players, some of whom have already performed well on the Beanpot stage and others who made their mark in their tournament debut. Skylar Irving, last year’s Beanpot MVP, notched two assists and Taze Thompson scored her fifth career Beanpot goal. Freshman Morgan Jackson also found the back of the net while her classmate in Jonsson made sure the Eagles never threatened by coming through with 37 saves.

None of it was new for Northeastern, though. Just another dominant Beanpot performance to get the Huskies within one win of getting their hands on the trophy again.

PLAY OF THE GAME
Northeastern took off after Jackson opened the scoring with a pretty goal with 9:56 left in the first period. Eloise Caron fed a perfect pass to Jackson as she got ready to enter the offensive zone and Jackson finished things off by moving slightly to her left to create some room before depositing a wicked wrister into the back of the net.

UP NEXT
Northeastern will collide with Boston University, which earned a thrilling overtime win in the other semifinal against Harvard, in next Tuesday’s Beanpot final for the second straight season.
