Alex Cora believes Alex Bregman is the “perfect” addition to this Red Sox team, and there’s already plenty of evidence to support the claim.
It has been an adventurous start to Bregman’s Boston career. The two-time World Series champion signed a three-year, $120 million contract just as spring training was set to begin. Upon arriving in Fort Myers, Fla., he became the center of a mini-controversy over who would play third base for the 2025 Sox.
That role has previously belonged to Rafael Devers, the recipient of another massive financial investment for Boston. When asked whether he’d move off his position to make room for Bregman — who won the American League Gold Glove at third base last season — Devers made it clear he wanted to stay at the hot corner.
Bregman insisted he’d do whatever it took to win, even if it meant moving to second base. He’ll still work in at third base, where he made his spring debut over the weekend, going 3-for-3 with a home run against Toronto.
The two-time All-Star also is making an impact on the side, even helping Devers with his defense, Cora revealed Tuesday.

“As far as the clubhouse, I’m not worried. They’re grown men. We have adults in the clubhouse now, we do,” Cora told “The Greg Hill Show” on WEEI.
“You see the way they talk. Actually, Alex is working with Raffy at third base. The first thing he did was tell him one pointer about glove presentation and all that, and Raffy got it right away.”
Meanwhile, Bregman again insisted he’d play wherever Cora and the Red Sox decide he can best contribute.
“To be honest, it’s an honor to be Raffy’s teammate,” Bregman said in a separate WEEI interview. “I’ve admired watching him play for so long from across the field. To be able to be on his team and pulling on the same end of the rope has been awesome.

“I feel like this has been talked about way more in the media than it has at all in our clubhouse. We haven’t really talked about it. We’ve been keeping our heads down getting to work. Like I said, I’ll play anywhere. I truly mean it. Whatever AC, wherever he tells me to play, I’ll be ready.”
It’s that kind of attitude and ability that have the Red Sox optimistic about 2025 and beyond.
