Following an offseason filled with promise and sky-high expectations, the Red Sox were served some humble pie right out of the gate in the 2025 campaign.
Boston dropped three of four games in its season-opening series in Texas. While Red Sox pitching impressed against the Rangers, the visitors’ bats were nowhere to be found. Alex Cora’s club only scored a combined 11 runs across the four-game set at Globe Life Field.
Alex Bregman was not exempt from Boston’s hitting woes. The marquee offseason addition went a combined 4-for-17 with no extra-base hits, no RBIs and four strikeouts in his first series with the Red Sox. One of those Ks was a game-ender Sunday when Boston had the potential game-tying and go-ahead runs on base in the ninth inning.
However, panic is not creeping in for the ever-confident Bregman.
“I’ve got to be better and come through in those spots and I will be,” Bregman told reporters, per The Boston Globe. “I saw a lot of good things overall from this team in this series.

“Obviously, not the results that we’re looking for. But I have a lot of confidence that we’re going to turn it around here rather quickly.”
