If the Patriots open the phone lines for Joe Milton III, it would make sense for teams with impending open quarterback competitions to call New England. We’re talking about clubs like the Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Giants and Cleveland Browns.
However, even organizations with a starting signal-caller set in stone might be interested in the uniquely talented sophomore.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler recently provided an update on Milton, who is drawing interest from “several teams” in the aftermath of the initial free agency wave. And as he offered the latest on the Tennessee product, Fowler floated a pretty surprising potential landing spot.
“One team to potentially watch for is the Dallas Cowboys because they are looking for a good backup, a young backup with upside they may not get in the draft, maybe they get in a trade,” Fowler said Wednesday on “NFL Live,” as transcribed by Bleacher Report.
Jerry Jones and company clearly are preparing for life after Dak Prescott, as evidenced by their trade for Trey Lance two years ago. The 2021 third-round pick amounted to nothing in Dallas, where the storied franchise could view Milton as its next QB project. The experiment would be worthwhile, too, as the 25-year-old is on an extremely team-friendly contract.
