The Patriots explored multiple options for wide receiver upgrades, and they might soon exhaust them.
New England was linked to star wideouts like Chris Godwin, Tee Higgins and DK Metcalf. Those players either stayed on their current team or were traded by other franchises before the Patriots could make a move.
Stefon Diggs was next on Mike Vrabel and company’s list, but according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler on Thursday, the Patriots also have Tyler Lockett “on their radar.”
Lockett took a step back in 2024 as Jaxon Smith-Njigba grew into a No. 2 role behind Metcalf. The All-Pro wideout only caught 49 passes for 600 yards and two touchdowns. However, the 32-year-old was still productive and remained a valuable option for Geno Smith.
The veteran would by no means be a No. 1 wide receiver for Drake Maye. The Patriots wouldn’t even be breaking the bank to sign him. However, he could be a valuable voice in the locker room for a young wide receiver corps.

Fowler added on “SportsCenter” that New England continues to explore trade options, but its options continue to run thin as the 2025 NFL Draft nears.
