Patriots training camp this summer will feature a key position battle, one that New England has grown accustomed to hosting.
There will be a new field-goal kicker for the Patriots in Mike Vrabel’s first season at the helm. This was confirmed Monday when Joey Slye’s agents revealed their client was set to sign a deal with the Tennessee Titans, per NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.
New England probably won’t miss Slye, whose 78.8% field-goal percentage in 2024 was his worst mark since his rookie season in 2019 (78.1). However, Slye’s exit means the Patriots in 2025 will have a new kicker for a third straight season. The revolving door at the position was preceded by years of reliability from the likes of Adam Vinatieri, Stephen Gostkowski and Nick Folk.
John Parker Romo, who joined the Patriots practice squad last December and signed a reserve/future contract one month later, currently is the only kicker on New England’s roster. That certainly will change in the coming months when Vrabel and company undoubtedly will add depth/competition through the draft and/or free agency.
