The NHL regular season is winding down, and every point matters. For some teams, it has to do with clinching Wild Card spots and determining home advantages, but for others it is about where you’ll end up in the NHL Draft Lottery. The Boston Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks faced off on Thursday night in their final matchup of the season, and the Bruins’ 5-2 loss might have some positive effects for their chances at a first overall pick.
Woburn, Massachusetts native Riley Duran made his NHL debut for the Bruins. David Pastrnak scored in the first period for his 217th career home goal, surpassing Ray Bourque (216) for sole possession of fourth in Bruins history. He trails Patrice Bergeron (227), Phil Esposito (256), and Johnny Bucyk (300). Morgan Geekie assisted on the goal for a career high 23rd assist.
The Bruins allowed three goals in 93 seconds during the third period. This flurry of goals was started by Boston native and former Boston Bruin Ryan Donato, who scored his 30th goal of the season for a career-high. Former Bruins Tyler Bertuzzi and Nick Foligno also scored.
