Boston Red Sox prospect Marcelo Mayer already had his 2024 opener snowed out. Now, another game in his minor-league career fell victim to a spring snowstorm.

The Worcester Red Sox postponed Saturday’s game against the Columbus Clippers due to overnight snow at Polar Park. Mayer embraced the time at the park before the postponement to build a snowman with teammate Nate Eaton.

Not bad for a Californian.

Mayer hit .220 in his first 10 games this season with Triple-A Worcester. He slugged a pair of home runs and drove in nine runs in that span. He continues his development alongside Red Sox top prospect Roman Anthony. Boston does not need to rush Mayer at the moment with Trevor Story’s productive start to the season and Kristian Campbell finding his groove at second base.

Both Anthony and Mayer should join the Red Sox in 2025 but have at-bats to grow with in Triple-A.
