The Red Sox have only played three of their 81 allotted games at Fenway Park, but the early returns are rather impressive.

Alex Cora’s club swept the previously surging Cardinals over the weekend to open their 2025 home slate. Not only did Boston win all three games, it did so in dominating fashion, outscoring the Redbirds 36-20 in the three-game set.

In the process, the Red Sox made their manager look prophetic, as Cora’s week-old proclamation has aged very well so far. After Boston’s bats came alive toward the end of a seven-game, season-opening road trip, Cora had a feeling big things were coming.

“This first (seven) games, it looks like a team that should dominate at Fenway offensively,” Cora told reporters last week, per The Boston Globe.

The Sox did just that, scoring at least 13 runs in two of the games, including an 18-run showing Sunday night. Boston hadn’t scored 18 runs in any game, let alone a home game, since putting up 20 on Tampa Bay back on Aug. 11, 2021. The Red Sox went 49-32 at Fenway that season on the way to making the American League Championship Series. Their 22 hits in the nightcap of the doubleheader were the most by any team so far this season.

Cora probably felt comfortable making his proclamation knowing the sort of damage Alex Bregman could do on Jersey Street. Granted, everyone knew the third baseman’s numbers in Boston as a visitor, and he has looked right at home in a new uniform. Bregman went 6-for-13 with two doubles, a home run and seven RBIs in his first series in the home whites.

“The energy in the ballpark has been electric,” Bregman told reporters, per MLB.com. “The fans have been amazing. Obviously, this is one of, if not the most treasured destinations to play baseball. When teams come in here, they’re gonna bring their ‘A’ game, so we need to be on top of it, and we want to defend Fenway and play well at home this year, and I think we did a good job here in this first series.”

Bregman also noted the Red Sox can’t let up, which echoes Cora’s recent comments.

“We have to make sure we keep doing the things that we’re doing,” Cora said last week, something that still stands, especially after just one home series.
