Alex Cora knew how excited Alex Bregman was for his first home game with the Red Sox.
After all, how could the two-time World Series champion not be fired up? The Red Sox have some momentum after winning two straight games in Baltimore and Bregman has historic offensive numbers in Boston. Also, as a “baseball rat,” Bregman wouldn’t be able to find many Opening Day environments better than what Fenway Park was going to offer Friday.
So, knowing the star third baseman probably was overwhelmed with anticipation, Cora felt inclined to send him a text Thursday night on the eve of Boston’s home opener.
“As far as the environment, he’s loving it,” Cora told NESN’s Tom Caron. “I texted him last night, ‘Hey, bro. Don’t show up at six in the morning, please. We don’t need that.’ He’s having a blast so far.”
Bregman will try to keep the good times rolling when the Red Sox aim for their third straight win over the St. Louis Cardinals. Fans can tune into NESN and NESN 360 for complete coverage of the matinee matchup.
