The Boston Red Sox desperately needed a win to wash away an otherwise frustrating series against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Boston earned that with Thursday’s 4-3 walk-off win in 10 innings at Fenway Park. The Red Sox offense endured a significant slump in the series against Toronto after a 36-run outburst in three games against the St. Louis Cardinals. Now, the Red Sox hit the road for two series and start with an opponent they must take care of business against.
The Red Sox play the Chicago White Sox, the team that set a MLB record for losses in a season in 2024, in seven of their next 10 games. That starts with three games in the Windy City before a four-game set at Fenway Park that ends on Marathon Monday. The White Sox have just two wins on the season and Boston needs to play like its playing a team as such.
The issue is the Red Sox haven’t taken care of business in this matchup to the level they’ve needed to. Boston is 8-11 against the White Sox since 2022 and dropped the series in Chicago last season. Boston has plenty of talent on the roster and just needs a spark to break from their inconsistent .500 start at 7-7.
Boston entered the season among the favorites to win the American League in 2025. The Red Sox can show why that was the case if they can surge to the end of April with a dominant stretch in their seven games against the White Sox.
