The Boston Red Sox lost their most recent series to the Toronto Blue Jays in crushing fashion.

Just one night after Wednesday’s loss that came when Boston previously held a 6-0 lead, the Red Sox suffered a 4-2 loss Thursday night. The Blue Jays changed the game in the eighth inning when Vladimir Guerrero Jr. stepped to the plate with runners on second and third base. Reliever Justin Slaten jumped ahead 0-2 in the count before the slugger fouled off pitches to stay alive and blasted a low curveball for a go-ahead, three-run home run.

The managerial decision swirled on 98.5 The Sports Hub’s “Felger and Mazz” program Friday. Hours later, Cora detailed his thought process from the Red Sox loss.

“You know what? I thought about it and probably if it’s in the World Series, I would have walked him … and we can’t play them in the World Series,” Cora told reporters at Fenway Park Friday, per MassLive’s Chris Cotillo.

“The walking part of it, I get it,” Cora added. “It’s Vladdy Guerrero. We had him 0-2. We didn’t execute putches after that. There’s a two-way street there. And I get it. Probably, in the ALCS, I’ll walk him. But right now in April and May, I’ve got to trust my guy. I’ve got to give Justin the leeway that he can do the job. And he has been great for us. Yesterday, he didn’t execute three pitches.”
