As Celtics fans wait with bated breath, Shams Charania took to the airwaves with the latest on injured Celtics star Jayson Tatum.

ESPN’s NBA insider reported Tatum underwent an MRI in New York City on Tuesday morning. Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla said that was the plan after Boston’s Game 4 loss to the Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Monday.

Charania also offered a grim update on the four-time All-NBA selection.

“The Boston Celtics are bracing for the worst around Jayson Tatum and that right foot,” Charania said on ESPN on Tuesday. “He underwent an MRI today (Tuesday) in New York City and the Celtics since last night have been expecting a severe injury for Tatum.”

Tatum suffered the non-contact lower leg injury with three minutes remaining in the 121-113 defeat. The injury is expected to be an Achilles tear, which would sideline Tatum for the remainder of the playoffs and the majority of the 2025-26 campaign.

The Celtics, who almost certainly will be without Tatum, currently face a 3-1 deficit in the best-of-seven series. They will try to stave off elimination as they host the Knicks in Game 5 on Wednesday night.
