Red Sox Nation is weeks into full-blown Roman Anthony watch.

Boston took a step to the future when Marcelo Mayer got called up to come play third base after Alex Bregman’s quad injury. Now, baseball’s No. 1 prospect patiently waits for his big-league call as he continues to punish Triple-A pitching.

The Red Sox outfield prospect sports a .306 batting average in Triple-A Worcester with a .941 OPS. He’s more than shown he’s ready for the call, so when will Boston make it?

We may have gotten a little hint Saturday, though Boston did not make any imminent roster moves before the middle game against the Atlanta Braves.

“A lot of excitement the next few days,” Red Sox senior director of player development Brian Abraham told WEEI’s “Play Tessie” crew Saturday afternoon. “… Little tease.”

That must be in reference to Anthony, right?

The Red Sox return home and start a three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels Monday night at Fenway Park. That could certainly makes sense.
