In the wake of the Boston Red Sox’s stunning Rafael Devers trade, the team needs Alex Bregman back from injury now more than ever. If his latest Instagram post is to be believed, it looks like he’s close to making his return to action.

Bregman suffered a right quad strain on May 23 that forced him to the injured list, with the expectation being that he would miss an extended period of time. In his absence, Marcelo Mayer was called up from Triple-A to fill in at third base.

With Devers getting dealt to the San Francisco Giants, there’s a big hole in the Red Sox lineup that needs to be filled. The hope is that once he returns, Bregman will be able to help replace some of that missing production.

The team is hoping that their new star third baseman will be able to return before the All-Star break, and it looks like he’s close to being ready. On Thursday night, Bregman shared an intriguing post on Instagram that some believe indicates he’s nearly back to full health.

After signing a three-year, $120 million contract with Boston in free agency, Bregman was enjoying a resurgent season for his new squad. Through 51 games, Bregman hit .299 with 11 home runs and 35 RBIs.

His addition, however, played a role in Devers’ sudden departure from the team. The new Giants star wasn’t happy to get moved from his native third base spot to make room for Bregman, and he was even more unhappy when the front office asked him to play in the field once Bregman and Triston Casas suffered injuries.

Now, Devers is gone, and the Red Sox need Bregman’s bat more than ever. If he can come back and hit like he was before his injury, Boston may not be dead in the water this season like many fans claim they are.

In fact, Boston has won its past four series, helping push its record up to 39-37. The Red Sox will now face off against their old friend Devers, as they kick off a series against San Francisco on Friday at 10:15 p.m. ET.
