New Boston Bruins head coach Marco Sturm was introduced alongside general manager Don Sweeney on Tuesday.
Sturm addressed a number of different things, including what needs to improve for the Bruins after they missed the playoffs following a 33-39-10 regular season.
While the new head coach talked about how the Bruins have a strong defensive core, he recognized that there is room for improvement on offense. Despite not hitting the ice yet, Sturm knows how he wants to improve the team.
“I still love our team, even without any additions, because I think we have good goaltending. I think when everyone stays healthy we have a really good D corps,” Sturm told reporters, as seen on NESN’s coverage “I think we’ hopefully going to add a few pieces up front but overall I like our corp. Having said that, I think we need a little bit more.
“We have to find a way to be more productive offensively.”

Another area where he’s focused in improving the team is in the locker room. The Bruins have a mix of young players and veterans, and Sturm is looking to embrace that heading into the season.
“We’re all going to make mistakes, old, young, it doesn’t matter,” Sturm said. “You’ve got to be very honest and direct with them. You’ve got to work with them and they also have to learn from our core group, from the older guys. That’s why the whole thing is important, it’s not just me, it’s the team.”
