The Boston Fleet officially said goodbye to their former captain Thursday.
PWHL Seattle signed Hilary Knight during the exclusive signing window Wednesday. The 10-time gold medalist signed a one-year deal with the expansion franchise, ending her two-season run in Boston.
“Hilary, from day one, you have led with passion, grace, and a fire that brought this team to life. Thank you for setting the tone, showing the way, and giving everything to Boston,” the Fleet social media statement read. “This franchise carries your fingerprints forever, and we’re grateful to have called you our Captain.”
Alina Müller and Lexie Adzija offered their appreciation for Knight in the comments of the Fleet’s Instagram post, which included the 35-year-old’s best moments of her Fleet career.
Knight’s departure came after Boston chose to protect Megan Keller, Aerin Frankel and Müller from the exclusive signing window and expansion draft. The Fleet can protect one additional player after relinquishing one more to Seattle or Vancouver.
Boston enters a new era without this season’s points leader and the Billie Jean King MVP award finalist, as general manager Danielle Marmer seeks to retool a roster that missed the postseason in its sophomore season.
