How Red Sox’s Jarren Duran Reacted To Ejection After Controversial Call

Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran didn’t get to finish Sunday’s 9-5 loss to the San Francisco Giants.

During the eighth inning, Duran got called out trying to stretch a hit into a double. Although he appeared to touch the second-base bag with his fingertip, a review confirmed the initial ruling, leading an incensed Duran to get ejected after barking at second base umpire Doug Eddings. Alex Cora also got tossed after defending his player.

Duran avoided any more trouble when discussing the situation after the game.

“I don’t really have an opinion on it,” Duran told reporters, per NESN’s broadcast. “I saw what I saw. They saw what they saw. At the end of the day, you can’t change it.”

Meanwhile, Cora offered a less diplomatic response to the call.

“He’s safe,” Cora said. “Clearly.”

An ejected Cora chirped at all the umpires before exiting the field. He explained that he was voicing his displeasure over several other calls throughout the three-game series at Oracle Park.

Cora doesn’t expect Duran to face any further punishment for arguing a reviewed play.

“I think he got thrown out because he voiced his opinion. I’ll be the one getting in trouble,” Cora said. “The check swing on Friday, the play at the plate, if I’m going to get thrown out, just make it worth it.”

Sunday’s incident ended a frustrating game for the Red Sox, who led 5-4 after six innings and allowed five unearned runs. Those issues overshadowed three home runs from Rob Refsnyder, Romy González and Ceddanne Rafaela.

Meanwhile, Duran had gone nine straight plate appearances without reaching base before the ruling spoiled his attempt at sparking a rally. Last year’s All-Star Game MVP is batting .257/.309/.405 near the midseason mark.
