“The Password” might be the key to Boston’s next roster shake-up.
As Christopher Smith of MassLive reports, 22-year-old outfielder Jhostynxon Garcia has been on a tear since his May 20 promotion from Double-A Portland.
Over 16 games, Garcia is slashing .353/.380/.618 with four home runs, four doubles, a triple and 10 RBI through 71 plate appearances — a run that’s pushed him from unranked to No. 46 on Keith Law’s Top 50 and No. 99 on Baseball America’s Top 100.
His profile has surged beyond the box score, too. Fans already know him as “The Password,” a nickname quirky enough to land as a clue on a recent episode of Jeopardy!, but it’s Garcia’s improved plate discipline and raw power that have the Red Sox and their fans getting excited for yet another impact rookie.
His timeline for the big leagues is no secret. As Smith noted, Garcia said during spring training that his goal was to earn a late-season call-up. Right now, that doesn’t seem far-fetched.

The only obstacle may be the Red Sox’ current outfield logjam. Between Wilyer Abreu (on the injured list), Roman Anthony, Jarren Duran and Ceddanne Rafaela, Boston already has four young outfielders on the roster. So, while Garcia is doing everything he can to force the issue, a clear path to regular playing time remains uncertain.
Still, this recent surge has Garcia climbing not just prospect rankings but also toward the center of the Red Sox’s future plans.
