Roman Anthony is making a few changes now that he’s officially a member of the Boston Red Sox.
Anthony won’t have to get on a cross-country bus any time soon, will have his own hotel room on road trips and will soon be looking for a new place to stay in Boston. It’s a whole new world for the rookie, and as it turns out, the rest of his family.
“I usually try to make him come over and give me a kiss,” Lori Anthony, his mother, told Tim Healey of The Boston Globe on Turesday. “Ever since he was little, ‘get over here,’ but now that he’s in the big leagues…”
It’ll be a bit harder moving forward.
Anthony, the one who shot a two-run double down the line for his first big league, had a whirlwind first few days in Boston. The Red Sox made their decision to promote him so late that he still doesn’t have all of his equipment, while his family’s seating arrangement caught him by surprise on Tuesday.

“Nobody really gave me the heads up that they were going to be that close,” he said.
Lori Anthony shed tears as she watched her son record his first major league hit, reveling in the work her family put in to help him reach his dream.
“She gets emotional for sure,” Roman said of his mom. “It’s awesome to have them here, to see them right there by the dugout and get a win in front of them.”

The Red Sox will be happy to put an end to that whirlwind, though, as the top prospect in baseball will have an opportunity to finally settle in and find a new normal — a new normal that involves a few less kisses.
