Seeing former Bruins captain Brad Marchand in a Florida Panthers jersey has been weird for Boston fans, and for Patrice Bergeron.

Despite it being odd, Bergeron is rooting for his longtime teammate as the Panthers take on the Edmonton Oilers in the Stanley Cup Final.

“I said it was very weird to see him wearing a Florida Panthers jersey and it still is, but to be honest with you, now I’m really cheering for Brad,” Bergeron said on NESN’s “Unobstructed Views” on Monday. “People are saying ‘Are you cheering for Florida or Edmonton?’ I’m like ‘I’m cheering for Brad.’ I just want him to get it, he deserves it.”

To start the Finals, the Panthers went down a game to the Oilers before tying the series at one game apiece. On Monday, Florida took a 2-1 series lead after a big 6-1 offensive show by the Panthers.

Marchand has been a big part of Florida’s success, scoring four goals in three games. In Friday’s double-overtime win for the Panthers, the 37-year-old scored two goals, including the winner.

“I’ve been impressed with the way he’s been playing throughout these playoffs,” Bergeron said. “He’s been an amazing addition. He’s one of the reasons why they’re in the Finals with his play and the way he’s been carrying the team.”

The former Bruins captain has been playing on the third line alongside Eetu Luostarinen and Anton Lundell. Marchand has also been an efficient part of the Panthers’ penalty kill unit.

“It’s been an adjustment for me and my family to cheer for that team but it’s for good reasons and I wish him and the Panthers all the best because I want him to get it,” Bergeron said.
