There was plenty to celebrate after the Boston Red Sox defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 15-1 on Saturday. With the recent six-game losing streak a thing of the past, the team can now focus on climbing its way back up the American League East standings.
The Red Sox’s 18-hit and 15-run attack on Blue Jays pitching was truly an impressive sight to behold. Factor in the latest seven-inning gem spun by Lucas Giolito, the first multi-hit game of Roman Anthony’s career, and a flurry of home runs, and this was easily one of the most dominant wins of the 2025 season.
Saturday’s victory also marked the return of Red Sox left-hander Chris Murphy, who hadn’t pitched in a Major League game since the 2023 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
Entering the game during the seventh inning in relief of Giolito, Murphy pitched two scoreless innings without allowing a hit while striking out two and walking two in a 31-pitch effort.
Murphy, who spent the majority of the 2024 season recovering from elbow surgery, showcased decent velocity on his fastball, which averaged 94 mph and topped out at 94.7 on his penultimate pitch of the eighth inning.

He also featured a changeup, curveball, slider, and sweeper during his outing. His sweeper worked wonders with two runners on and two outs in the ninth inning. With left-handed batter Will Wagner at the plate, Murphy threw a 76.5 mph sweeper for a called strike. He returned to it again on the very next pitch and got Wagner to pop out to end the game and seal the Red Sox victory.
