The 2025 MLB All-Star Game will take place at Truist Park on July 15, and injured Boston Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman made it to phase two of voting to earn a spot on the American League’s roster.
With Bregman considered unlikely to return to the field before the Midsummer Classic takes place, starting pitcher Garrett Crochet (7-4) and closer Aroldis Chapman (14 saves) are the only Red Sox players with a chance to be selected when All-Star pitchers are announced.
One player who won’t have to wait to find out if he’ll be an All-Star is Los Angeles Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani. After leading the National League in total votes (3,967,668), Ohtani’s selection is the fifth of his astounding eight-year career.
With Ohtani’s latest All-Star nod, he tied Red Sox legend, Hall of Famer, and three-time World Series champion David Ortiz as the only other player in MLB history to be voted in as a designated hitter five times. Ortiz was a 10-time All-Star during his 20-year career.
Ohtani, who is having another remarkable season at the plate, is batting .291 with 28 home runs and 52 RBI in 80 games. He recently returned to the mound after spending all of last season at DH while recovering from his second Tommy John surgery.

While we await word on All-Star news for Bregman, Crochet, and Chapman, the Red Sox will start a three-game series at Fenway Park against the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday. Bryan Bello (3-2) will face José Berríos (3-3) in the series opener.
