The Red Sox have multiple players known for amazing web gems, but their team defense left a lot to be desired Tuesday.

Boston committed three errors in its loss to the Los Angeles Angels at Fenway Park. Alex Cora’s side leads MLB with 53 errors and led the league in the category in the last two seasons. That might be why the Red Sox manager reached a breaking point after another one-run loss for his team as the American League East club seeks answers.

One key error in Tuesday’s loss came in the third inning when a Zach Neto RBI single went into center field. Ceddanne Rafaela fielded and chose to throw to home, but the throw went well wide of the plate and to the backstop.

“I think it was the right decision. Just not the right throw,” Rafaela told reporters, per The Boston Globe.

Chris Taylor advanced to third, and Neto advanced to second. Nolan Schanuel hit a two-run single in the following at-bat to put LA up 3-0.

Rafaela is a talented center fielder, capable of making outstanding plays look routine. However, he arguably was trying to do too much too early in the ballgame due to a rough patch in Boston’s schedule.

“Right now, obviously, we know we’re in a tough stretch,” Rafaela said, per MassLive. “I think everybody here doesn’t want to make mistakes. I feel we can’t get frustrated. We’ve gotta keep going. It’s a long season. We have till September. I think we’re still in the battle and I trust this team.”
