The Boston Red Sox already have every reason to call up baseball’s top prospect in Roman Anthony.
Other teams around baseball have wasted no time in recent weeks calling up their own talented minor-leaguers. The Athletics already called up slugging first baseman Nick Kurtz (5 HR, .764 OPS in 28 games). Now, the Kansas City Royals became the latest team to make a major prospect splash.
News broke Sunday night that the Royals will call up their own slugger in 2024 first-round pick Jac Caglianone. Kansas City moved him fast through its farm system and the Florida product rewarded the team each time. Most recently, Caglianone played in just 12 games in Triple-A with six home runs with a 1.094 OPS.
Anthony’s sample size for Triple-A Worcester stands the test of time back to August 2024. He sports a .319 average and a .946 OPS in his Triple-A career and continues to show the Red Sox why he’s ready to contribute.
There’s a few reasons in between the lines that attempt to explain why Anthony isn’t on the MLB roster right now, especially for a Red Sox offense that could use a jolt. For now, he stays ready in Worcester waiting ever-so-patiently for his deserved call to the show.
