New York Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton began his rehab stint Tuesday night with the Double-a Somerset Patriots, going 2-for-3 with three RBI against the Portland Sea Dogs.
So what’s next? Good question.
“He’s scheduled to play again Wednesday, then rest on Thursday and possibly play again on Friday and/or Saturday,” NJ Advance Media’s Randy Miller reported Tuesday.
That could put him on track to face the Red Sox this weekend when the Yankees visit Boston for a three-game series at Fenway Park.
“I don’t know about that. I haven’t gotten that far,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said, according to Miller.

Stanton started the season on the injured list with tendinitis in both elbows. But the 35-year-old isn’t worried about the big picture right now.
“I just gotta get some real bats in the game and then we’ll figure it out,” Stanton said, according to NJ Advance Media’s Max Goodman. “This isn’t where I want to be, trust me. … There’s no simulating a major-league game, but if you want to get as close as you can, go to a minor-league game.”
Among those eagerly anticipating Stanton’s return is Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge.

“I can’t wait. Everyone in this room can’t wait to see him,” Judge said, according to MLB.com’s Jackson Stone. “… He’s a big part of this team. He means a lot on the field, but also in this clubhouse. He’s such a leader, such a mentor to a lot of the guys, especially the younger guys, so it’ll be nice to get him back.”
If Stanton can return and stay healthy (and that’s a big “if” for someone who’s missed significant time in each of the last six seasons), he will team with the reigning American League MVP to form perhaps the best 1-2 combo in baseball.
Judge is hitting an MLB-best .396 with 24 home runs and 58 RBI.
