It’s decision time for the Yankees.

Will New York activate designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton from the injured list so he can play in Boston this weekend against the Red Sox?

Will the Yankees have infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. back in the lineup after getting banged up during New York’s three-game sweep this week of the Kansas City Royals?

Let’s start with Stanton, who is recovering from tendinitis in both elbows.

The 35-year-old unexpectedly played in a third straight rehab game Thursday with the Double-A Somerset Patriots. Stanton went 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts. In his three games with the Patriots, Stanton went 3-for-11 with three strikeouts.

So will the Yankees keep Stanton on his rehab stint or bring him to Fenway Park for his 2025 regular season debut? The Yankees will make that decision today, according to NJ Advance Media’s Randy Miller.

If Stanton can return and stay healthy — that’s a big “if” for someone who’s missed significant time in each of the last six seasons — he will team with reigning American League MVP Aaron Judge to form perhaps the best 1-2 combo in baseball.

Judge is hitting an MLB-best .392 with 25 home runs and 59 RBI.

As for Chisholm, he didn’t play in the Yankees’ 1-0 win Thursday vs. the Royals. While the 27-year-old was “Good to go,” according to Miller, manager Aaron Boone opted to give Chisholm the night off. He left Wednesday’s game with hamstring tightness.

It was the second straight game Chisholm had to leave early. In Tuesday’s win, Chisholm left in the seventh inning due to a stiff neck and bloody thumb, which reportedly occurred when he was tagged hard in the fifth inning.

Chisholm, in his second season with the Yankees, came off the injured list last week after he missed 28 games with a strained right oblique. Despite playing in just 38 games this season, Chisholm leads New York with 10 stolen bases.
