New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone gave a big update on the status of injured All-Star outfielder Aaron Judge on Tuesday.

“Aaron Boone tells us that Aaron Judge will start hitting off a tee today or tomorrow, but will need 10-15 days to start throwing,” Jomboy Media’s Talkin’ Yanks account posted on X.

The good news for Yankees fans is that Judge is nearing a return to at least swinging a bat, but the bad news is that he’s at least one or two weeks away from throwing. That means that the two-time AL MVP could be limited to designated hitting duties upon his return to action.

Judge is having another monster season with 37 home runs, 85 RBIs and a league-leading .342/.449/.711 slash line, but his defense is strong as well. The only real threat to Judge winning his second straight AL MVP award is Seattle Mariners slugging catcher Cal Raleigh.

The Yankees captain was placed on the 10-day injured list on Sunday with a right flexor strain.

If Judge is restricted to designated hitting, fellow former MVP Giancarlo Stanton could fill in as the primary right fielder.

Stanton hasn’t played the field yet in 2025, starting 26 times as New York’s designated hitter. The 35-year-old served as the Yankees designated hitter during all 109 of his starts in 2024, as well, and last played right field in 2023, when he patrolled the corner spot 31 times.
