Is Ryan McMahon about to experience a surge in plate production for his new team, the New York Yankees?

McMahon was traded to the Yankees from the Colorado Rockies on Friday for pitching prospects Griffin Herring and Josh Grosz. McMahon was an All-Star last season for Colorado but hasn’t been as dominant this year. Entering Friday, he was batting .217 with a .717 OPS and 16 home runs.

However, at least one analyst believes McMahon will benefit immensely from the increased use of analytics that the Yankees use to help their hitters.

Speaking during a new episode of the “Foul Territory” podcast, MLB analyst Eric Kratz asserted that McMahon’s defense will benefit the Yankees and also that McMahon will have access to offensive analytics and information that he never had with the Rockies.

“He’s not going to be able to clean up all the defense, but it plugs a big spot that they needed,” Kratz said, referring to McMahon’s position at third base.

“And to me, the value and the things he’s going to learn with the Yankees … will (cause) a very significant jump in his offense because (of) the lack of knowledge, the lack of information that they are given in Colorado,” Kratz continued.

Kratz also pointed to former Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu, who discussed the difference in information he noticed when he signed with New York in 2019, after six years in Colorado. “We didn’t have any of this stuff (in Colorado),” LeMahieu said, per Kratz.
