The MLB All-Star game doesn’t have the same stakes it used to. Home-field advantage in the World Series is no longer determined by the Midsummer Classic.
That doesn’t mean the game isn’t competitive, though.
On Tuesday, the American League fell behind 6-0. After eight innings, the deficit was just two. In the ninth inning, the AL scratched two more runs across to tie the game.
Boston Red Sox closer Aroldis Chapman pitched the bottom of the ninth and retired the side in order. With the game tied after nine innings, the first home run swing-off tiebreaker ensued.
Three batters per team, three swings per team. The team with the most home runs wins the game.

The American League sent out Brent Rooker, Randy Arozarena, and Jonathan Aranda. The National League used Kyle Stowers, Kyle Schwarber, and Pete Alonso. New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm did not participate.
Rooker led off with two home runs on his three swings. Stowers followed with a home run of his own. Arozarena matched Stowers and got the lead back to two, but Schwarber went 3/3 to give the NL a lead heading into the final round. Aranda stepped in down a run and went 0/3 to hand the NL the victory, 4-3.
