The Boston Bruins have added grit up front this offseason, but their blue line still needs reinforcements, especially on the right side.

Three trade targets — Rasmus Andersson, Bowen Byram and Connor Murphy — were identified by Michael DeRosa of The Hockey News as players who could help fill Boston’s glaring need.

Each brings a distinct blend of attributes, with DeRosa noting that the Bruins “still have not found a proper replacement for Brandon Carlo” following the veteran’s trade to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Andersson, now in the final year of his contract with the Calgary Flames, profiles as the most offensively gifted of the group.

A proven top-four blueliner who runs a power play with confidence, he brings both edge and polish. He is constantly engaged, alert in all three zones, and skilled enough to quarterback a man advantage or join the rush. While his decision-making can waver under pressure, Andersson plays with pace and purpose—two qualities Boston could use more of on the back end.

Byram’s inclusion is intriguing. The 24-year-old recently signed a two-year extension with the Buffalo Sabres, but DeRosa points out that “he is continuing to create chatter in the rumor mill.”

Comfortable on either side of the ice, Byram blends elite skating with sharp instincts and a willingness to push tempo. He is composed under pressure and capable of flipping possession with quick outlets or calculated pinches, and his ceiling remains high as he enters his prime.

Murphy, on the other hand, is all about reliability. The Chicago Blackhawks veteran lacks the offensive flair of the others, but would bring structure and steadiness to Boston’s second pair.

A trusted penalty killer who can handle top matchups, Murphy plays heavy minutes without the spotlight—and that might be exactly what Boston needs to stabilize its blue line.

Whether the Bruins want creativity, mobility or shutdown muscle, the right upgrade is out there. Whether they will pursue an upgrade is a storyline to watch as the summer wanes.
