Al Horford has all but signed with the Golden State Warriors.
Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens and Warriors superstar Steph Curry both forecasted that something was going down last week, but we’re still waiting on the two sides put pen to paper. Clutch Points’ Brett Siegel reported why on Monday.
“Jonathan Kuminga’s situation is holding these deals up,” Siegel posted to X, referring to Golden State’s expected signings of Horford and De’Anthony Melton.
Kuminga, a restricted free agent, reportedly has made contract demands beyond what the club is willing to pay him, meaning they’ll likely need to execute a sign-and-trade to avoid disaster. The Warriors can’t sign the two veterans we mentioned earlier without conclusion, though, so things are headed down a rough path.
Horford won’t exactly require a max contract, but the finances don’t gel as things currently stand.
