A former Boston Celtics player is in legal hot water following reports on Sunday that Marcus Morris Sr. was arrested for felony fraud at a Broward County airport in Florida.
According to Broward County booking records, the 13-season NBA forward was held without bond after being accused of writing a bad check with insufficient funds to a Las Vegas casino that flagged him for unpaid gambling debts. Morris was subsequently arrested on a warrant while waiting to board an aircraft in the terminal.
Morris, who last played for the Philadelphia 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2023-2024 season, was a member of the Celtics for two seasons between 2017 and 2019. The 35-year-old also spent time playing in four other organizations throughout his 13-year career and made his NBA debut with the Houston Rockets during the 2011-2012 season.
Morris’s agent, Yony Noy, released a statement on social media regarding his client’s arrest on Sunday evening, claiming that reports of Morris writing a bad check are inaccurate. Noy’s statement was in response to a previous post by Morris’ twin brother Markieff, who issued a separate statement in his sibling’s defense.
“Just so everyone understands this is zero fraud here or whatever crap outlets have said regarding fake checks or whatever the hell,” wrote Noy. “This is due to an outstanding marker with a casino. Apparently if you have over $1,200 they can issue a warrant for your arrest. Absolute insanity!”

The former Celtic had recently transitioned to a guest analyst role on ESPN and Yahoo Sports and last played in the NBA during the 2023-2024 season. It remains unclear if Morris plans to return to the league next season.
