The Boston Bruins added a large number of players to the organization during the first day of free agency.
With additions like Tanner Jeannot, the Bruins may not be going away from the identity they have already historically established. In an interview with Boston.com’s Conor Ryan, head coach Marco Sturm said that he believes his team will have the grit the Bruins have always been known for.
“For me, right away, it’s grit. It’s hard to play against,” Sturm said about the identity after the Bruins’ free agency moves. “It’s again, like I said, going back to our identity. Back to the standard we want to play as the Boston Bruins. I think that identity, we definitely will have [it]. I think that’s something I think the fans and everyone else can appreciate, and they will see it with the way we’re going to play.”
General manager Don Sweeney has also said before that he wants to see the Bruins get back to their tough playing style.
Sturm, though, is going into the season knowing that the Bruins won’t be a top team in the NHL right away. With the off-season additions, he’s hopeful that the front office has taken the correct steps towards being successful.

“There’s still a lot of work to do. Don’t get me wrong, right? What I experienced, even in L.A. You wish you can fix it overnight, but you can’t. So you’ve got to be patient,” Sturm said. “But I thought Don and his staff did a tremendous job, and I’ve been around them the last four days. There were a lot of discussions with other teams and players — could have gone somewhere else, but I’m really happy the way we ended and now I’m looking forward to working with this team, also giving some young guys an opportunity, because that’s what I like to do.”
