Dallas Cowboys outspoken owner Jerry Jones might’ve irked a franchise cornerstone just before training camp.

Ah yes, Jerry being Jerry.

Cowboys superstar defender Micah Parsons doesn’t seem enthused about public comments made by Jones. Parsons hinted at such displeasure when he amplified a social media post initially posted by future Hall of Famer and NFL analyst J.J. Watt.

Parsons re-tweeted the following from Watt: “Anytime you can publicly take a dig at your star quarterback and your star pass rusher simultaneously, right before the season begins, you just gotta take it…. Nothing makes guys want to fight for you more than hearing how upset you are that they got hurt while fighting for you.”

Jones comments served as a slight dig at Parsons given the two-time First Team All-Pro missed time last season due to injury. Although the Cowboys owner was incorrect in the amount of games — Parsons played 13 games and thus missed four.

“Just because we signed him doesn’t mean we’ll have him,” Jones responded regarding Parsons’ impending contract extension. “He missed six games last year. Seriously. We’ve signed — I remember signing a player for the highest-paid at the position in the league and he got knocked out two-thirds of the year, Dak Prescott. So there’s a lot of things you can think about when you — just as the player does — when you’re thinking about committing and guaranteeing money.”

The 26-year-old Parsons, who was the 12th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, has one year remaining on his rookie contract. While Parsons took the practice field Monday and thus is less likely to hold out, the star defender surely will be looking for his well-deserved extension.

Jones might have just cost himself even more, too.
